What’s your passion?

I read the book “No More Mondays: Fire Yourself – and other Revolutionary Ways to Discover Your True Calling at Work” and it challenges the reader to think about what they really want to do in life, whether that’s within their current job or finding a new situation.   During this week, I’ve seen several people taking steps towards fulfilling their dreams.

On Monday, a couple from my church were going through evaluations to take the next step towards fulfilling a lifetime dream of being missionairies.  That same day, my brother was being interviewed on a local radio station about his book “The Top 100 Songs of the Rock Era” – he did a great job and I loved hearing him on our hometown Classic Rock station.  Completing the week, my son took some test at the local community college as he prepares to pursue his dream.

This makes me want to step back and think about what I’m most interested in and what I love to do.

I love to make a difference in people’s lives.  Sometimes that’s in church or charitable organizations but it’s also through marketing communications and marketing research to give people the information that they need.   When it’s something that interests me, it’s really not work but instead, it’s actually fun.  The secret is figuring out how to keep having fun and getting paid for it.

In my spare time, I love to read (I’ve finished 3 books in the past week and am half-way through a 4th) and joining my church’s book club has really expanded the types of books I’m reading.  I also enjoy sports; while the rest of the family was out of town, I took the opportunity to watch the NBA Playoffs in HD on the big screen television; the best part of that was seeing Kobe & the Lakers lose while the worst part was seeing LeBron and the Heat win.  Saturday, my Celtics play Game 7 for the right to take on the Miami Heat while the Spurs and OKC will soon battle in the West.

Some of the family is back in town which means I have to share the big screen but it also means I get to spend time with the grandkids and that can be lots of fun.  My wife should be home from Texas before too long and I’m going to have another grandchild soon.  Spending time with Liz and all of the rest of the family is what I most enjoy but I’m still wanting to make sure that the time when I’m away from them is enjoyable as well.

So, I’m dreaming about what I most enjoy and encourage you to do the same!
