Let’s all go to the movies

I read in The Kansas City Star that this Saturday, September 3rd, is National Cinema Day and it was also mentioned in several national media sources, including Entertainment Weekly. I’m hoping to take in at least one movie on Saturday, even if that means I record my beloved Buckeyes as Notre Dame plays at Ohio State to kick off the College Football season.

Looking at AMC Barrywoods down the street from me, there’s something for almost everyone:

  1. Cartoons like Minions: The Rise of Gru, DC League of Super Pets, or Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
  2. Marvel movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home or Thor: Love & Thunder
  3. Action films with big name starts like BulletTrain (Pitt) or Top Gun: Maverick (Cruise)
  4. Action films with non-human creatures like Beast, Jurassic World Dominion or JAWS (1975)
  5. A movie about a musician: Elvis
  6. A movie based on a book: Where the Crawdads Sing
  7. Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul (with one of the stars of This is Us)
  8. and the ever popular much, much more

So start off the three-day holiday weekend by going to the movies (although if you could leave a spot for me, that would be great) and then turn on football to join me in rooting against the Fighting Irish.

Then on Tuesday, it’s back to work.

Fans and Favorites

This Sunday, my hometown football team will attempt to repeat as Super Bowl champions (#RunItBack) after waiting 50 years between championships. I am excited for the Kansas City Chiefs and hope they do better than my other football team did in their recent championship game. I earned my MBA at The Ohio State University but the Buckeyes did not do very well against Alabama a few weeks ago. I actually prefer baseball and am looking forward to the new season to start April 1st. The Royals won it all in 1985 and 2015 but I’m hoping we don’t have to wait another 30 years for them to win another one.

I am also a fan of Star Wars (I enjoy all of them but think Empire Strikes Back was the best) as well as Marvel (Captain America: Civil War is my favorite) and Justice League (the first Wonder Woman is the winner) and my favorite animated movie is Mulan.

I truly enjoy reading; in my Classic Novels book club, my favorite classic has been The Grapes of Wrath but am excited that we’re soon going to read / discuss The Old Man & The Sea.

I’m fascinated by Sherlock Holmes, whether it’s the written form or on TV (both Elementary on CBS and Sherlock on BBC or even when Data explored the character in Star Trek: The Next Generation) but haven’t cared for the various movie versions.

I think statistics and marketing research are fun, have a passion for non-profits, believe in the power of print and journalism in general, and can lose hours going down a rabbit hole discussing one thing or another.

However, Faith & Family come first. While we might not always see eye-to-eye on everything, I love to spend time with my family (either in-person or remote) whether they’re here in the KC area or in Georgia, Iowa, Texas or somewhere else.

Have a SUPER weekend and … Go Chiefs!
